Maldivian Youth protests against the government for the 3rd Day

There are thousands of people gathered with anger against the current government due to increasing prices of general goods in the country. Food Prices has risen 50%, while the basic need Electricity and other utilities such as water and others have risen to 40% in recent times.

This wasn't what the people wanted while voting to the President Nasheed during the presidential election in 2008. People wanted a change with good things and with high hopes. But that didnt come true in any mean. The poor has been more poorer since Mr. Nasheed came into power.

The Presdient Nasheed's objective and ambition was to be a world famous leader. So, his is doing his best to follow the theory of been a known personality.

1. Mr. Nasheed wanted him to be among the Hero's on CNN
2. Mr. Nasheed wanted Maldives to be a green country and to be the Global president.

For the above two reason's he have been doing his best in all the ways he can to be on the top of the leaders.

He promised the people that the prices of things will be affordable to the general public, people will never have to beg from others for anything. Health, Education...etc But today what we see is not what he promised. Not even what we thought we would be seeing in our life.

Nothing is affordable here and anyone who says anything against President Nasheed is arrested.  Police plays a very bad role in maintaining the President nasheed in power. Drugs has increased among the youth, the crime rate has increased 150% in recent 2 years. People fear to go out of their homes, we have lost the people's smile, people's freedom.

The youth of Maldives started the Protest on 1st May 2011 to make the government listen to what the people of Maldives need. We cannot afford the prices of any of our general needs. The salaries of government employees has been reduced, while many of government employees has been removed from civil service to private/public companies.

Now, we are seeing what the real face of President Nasheed. Police attacked the public whil ethey were empty handed. Police used tear gas, pepper spray against the innocent peaceful protesters. Not even leaving to that extent. The police arrested morethan 44 people including women and children aged 16 for being near the protest location. Some of the neighbours living in close to the protesting area was badly beaten by the Police under the order of President Nasheed.
